The State Public Defender’s Office is seeking to contract with one attorney to provide legal services to inmates at one Department of Corrections institution. The opportunity is at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Oakdale. The contract would begin January 1, 2020 and end June 30, 2020.
The contract would require the following:
Attorney will represent male and female respondents in involuntary hospitalization commitment hearings in Johnson County under Iowa Code Chapter 229, including any appeals, unless the Court orders Attorney to withdraw because of a conflict of interest. The scope of services excludes Writ of Habeas Corpus petitions filed under Iowa Code Chapter 229.
The rate of pay will be $63 per hour, payable monthly upon receipt of an itemized billing statement. There is no set amount of hours, only reasonable and necessary hours as needed to satisfactorily represent a client listed in the above scope.
